Blooming in Blue

Blue Bells (Hyacinthoides non-scripta) are beautiful plants that not only look great in a garden but held within themselves are certain compounds that defend them from insects, these same compounds are being used to fight against HIV and cancer. This image depicts a self-portrait of me, at a time in my life of vulnerability in which the matriarch (my grandmother) was diagnosed with cancer. I wanted to keep my family rooted as if I was a blue bell that had the capability to grow and fully bloom.
